Have you ever heard of a Comfort Cross? I hadn't until a few days ago and I admit I was more than a little curious as to why someone would make them. It seemed like a good idea....I just wasn't sure I got the point. Then I got this gorgeous little cross in the mail. I won't say it's perfect. It's not. It barely looks like a cross with it being all lopsided and everything, but it's still beautiful. I think it's beauty lies in the fact that like me, it IS imperfect and yet God still loves me.
When I first held it, I loved how comfortable it was to hold in my hand. It fit perfectly and it would be easy to carry with me anywhere. I'm not big on jewelry but you wouldn't believe some of the stuff I carry around in the bottom of my purse lol. So i figured I would take my little cross with me in my purse and pull it out when I need it. Then I realized that I do that with God a lot too. I keep him with me, but I only REALLY talk to him when I need something or things aren't going right. That's got to stop! So, I decided to share my cross with my beautiful niece who is officially a teenager in a couple days. Being a teen is tough work these days, especially for girls. I am hoping the cross will help not just comfort her during tough times, but also guide and protect her. I know I know, sappy right? Shoosh! I love my nieces and nephews very much and hopefully she won't see this before she gets her package.
Anyway, The story of the Comfort Cross is a little sappy too but in a good way. These crosses are made of Olive wood from Bethlehem. Due to tourism declining in the area it is becoming harder and harder for Christian Artisans to feed and care for their families. The mission of MyComfortCross.com is to provide a market for these beauties here in America to help those families that are struggling. The artisans receive a fair price for their goods and the consumer gets a beautiful token from the birthplace of our Savior for a very fair price as well. I know I'll never go to Bethlehem, but my niece will now have a piece of it and I plan to buy more as well because I think they're just gorgeous.
Plus they can be used in so many ways. I used mine for a few days just holding it in my hand as I prayed. When I was feeling a little stressed I just held it and ran my hand over it to soothe my nerves and remind myself that God is with me. It could also be used to help soothe a child's fears and anxieties. I imagine it would be good to hold just while meditating too. I don't meditate so I wouldn't know for sure lol. They make great gifts and there are even ways to use them as a fundraising tool which I think would be awesome. At our old church the kids could do things to earn money to go to summer camp and this would have been something they really could have raised money pretty fast with.
To get the word out, mycomfortcross.com has offered me the opportunity to give away two of these beautiful crosses to two lucky readers.
